As January officially comes to a close, the days a getting brighter, the air crisper, and people begin to ask themselves, ” Where the f*ck did the month go?”.

me too, guys. me too.

Winter has turned me into a bit of a homebody, as it does with most people. It’s a great time for the creative community to hole and up and explore new ideas and concepts through their arts practice. Isolate & create.
For me these post-holiday winter months are a time to consume content, be it visual art, music, local and global politics, film and literature. Read, listen, ruminate, repeat.
Eventually, cabin fever sets in and you get that urge to emerge. Despite the dropping temperatures and razor sharp wind chills, Winnipeg’s arts community surges on with a ton of interesting shit to do. My most recent article on the Rooster is full suggestions if you are looking for something to do this February.
For those still lamenting the frigid conditions, here is a list of highly anticipated albums and tours that are set to launch in 2013:
I’m really excited to see how this turns out, it’ll be tough to follow up after such a successful year with The Suburbs.
When this track was released a few weeks ago, I was a bit thrown off. I had read that Mr. Bowie retired from the road due to health reasons and I pretty much wrote off any chance of seeing him live. Now there are rumours circulating that he may play one, count em’ ONE, show to launch his new LP. Let’s hope he decides to do it in Winnipeg. Fingers crossed. Hahaha..
The artist formerly known as The Artist Formerly Known as Prince has announced a 2013 world tour. As someone who’s close friend set up for the 2011 Prince show, I can guarantee a visually stunning and extremely entertaining show (I was told that they had change all the regular light bulbs backstage to purple light bulbs) What a guy.
Last week, The Strokes released this single which is a sonic departure from what we’ve heard from them so far. From what I’ve read, this album is completely written and produced by the boys. It’s set to release in March.
They’re telling the media that this album isn’t for everyone. Good news for people who are open to new sounds, bad news for people who just want to hear Kids for the 1000th time.
Wasn’t the last album MBV released, Loveless? Wasn’t that like 10 years ago? Put on your finest footwear, folks. WE’RE GOING SHOEGAZING.
I didn’t see this one coming at all. After their Alive tour in 2007, I was certain that Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo were retiring.
Holy sh*t! They’re reissuing Give Up and playing Coachella! The reissue includes a second B side with new tracks, remixes, and odds and ends. Did I mention that they’re touring? For those who missed The Postal Service on the first round of tours for this album, back in 2006, because they were fiscally irresponsible minors, NOW’S OUR CHANCE.
